'Maldivian terrorist planned attack on World Cup'

Rehman Malik reveals identity of terrorist who was earlier arrested by Interpol in Colombo.

RAWALPINDI: Interior Minister Rehman Malik on Friday claimed that the terrorist arrested in Colombo, who was planning an attack on cricketers during the cricket World Cup, was of Maldivian origin.

Malik, who was speaking to the media after attending the inauguration of a passport office in Gujar Khan, said that the government was cooperating with Interpol to cripple the terrorist network in Pakistan.

The interior minister had earlier announced that a terrorist had been arrested by Interpol with the cooperation of Pakistani intelligence agencies but the arrested person has no direct connection with Pakistan.

The Interpol Secretary General Ronald Noble had acknowledged Pakistan’s assistance and said that Interpol had managed to arrest a terrorist from Sri Lanka who was allegedly targeting cricketers during the World Cup. The arrest was made after receiving information from the Pakistani government.

Ali Adam | 13 years ago | Reply This is baseless story; the suspect Iqbal has been released last night in Maldives. He has nothing to do cricketers during the World Cup. In 2007 the Maldives Police issued red notice for suspect for local extreme religious activity here in the Maldives. Pakistan Madrasas need to be banned as they have been the main source of religious extremism in the Maldives. So far all Maldivians in recent history arrested for extremes activities have been students from Pakistan Madrasas.

If we provide a DNA sample, is pakistan will be honest to match DNA with its 600 million plus people to find who their parents are. How come all other 9 terrorists died in Mumbai, and there has been to date no identification about them or even DNA testing to identify who they were, but Ajmal Kasab has become the mighty villain amongst them, being found at every important instance in the entire episode, as if the entire plan was being video taped on purpose ... Sounds very bollywood-ish though. Please don't involve religion here, as muslims themselves denounce such acts of violence ...

SupeR(eh)man Malik can solve international mysteries and miseries alike in a heartbeat but he cannot do the same for Pakistan and Pakistanis. He is always called to sort out the problems in Karachi and he fails miserably. He is incognizant of the plight of Pakistanis and clearly disconnected from the people and problems of Pakistan. He should either become the Indian Home Minister or Zardari's Special Envoy to the MQM.
