Overcharging: Rawalpindi police nab 12, fine six

Shopkeepers were selling vegetables and fruits at rates higher than those approved by the government

RAWALPINDI: Around a dozen shopkeepers and vendors were sent to jail by the district government on Wednesday while fines were imposed for overcharging customers. According to details, Assistant Commissioner (AC) Saddar Tasneem Ali Khan visited several markets on Adiala Road and checked the rate lists displayed at 22 shops, including the vegetable and fruit vendors. He found that the shopkeepers were selling the vegetables and fruits at rates higher than those approved by the government. On his instructions, 12 shopkeepers were arrested on the spot while Rs50,000 as the fine was imposed on six vendors. The police booked the detained shopkeepers and sent them to Adiala jail. “During the raids, it was found that shopkeepers were not displaying the rate lists issued by district government and have been minting money from the consumers,” he said.
