In an effort to keep up with fast-evolving digital technology, the Lok Virsa on Tuesday launched an initiative to strengthen its archives and research programme.

Working in collaboration with USA-based Smithsonian Institute and the Interactive Resource Centre (IRC) based in Lahore, the Lok Virsa has started digitising records in its national sound and video library and organising them in a digital catalogue.

Moreover, it is undertaking collaborative research to improve the museum and generate programmes for the youth, a statement released on Tuesday said.

“For the last two years, the [Lok Virsa] administration has been reviving its capacity and has been working to preserve, collect and disseminate culture in the purest form especially the folklore and folk music for the past three generations,” said Lok Virsa Executive Director Dr Fouzia Saeed.

She added that they would convert their archives into an online database of digital records.
