KARACHI: Schools Education Secretary Abdul Aziz Uqaili authorised on Monday all district education officers to resolve the issues of teachers at local levels on a priority basis.

A circular has been issued directing all the district and taluka education officers to resolve official matters of the teachers and staff of the Sindh government's school education department at a local level, so that teachers from across the province do not have to come to Karachi for every petty issue they face.

Explaining the reason for issuing the circular, Head of the School Education Department's Communication Department Asghar Soomro, told The Express Tribune that teachers and staff have to visit the Sindh Secretariat frequently to have their issues resolved. He added that they spend a lot of money on traveling and accommodation, when they come to the city for these petty issues.

"This is to make it easy for them to resolve their issues on district or directorate levels," Soomro said, adding that due to these problems, the secretary is also surrounded by many issues that can be fixed by his subordinates.

Another issue that is mentioned in the circular relates to the leaves of the teachers visiting Karachi to get their problems resolved. "They will have to present a written approved leave letter if the teachers want to visit the secretariat in Karachi from now on," he added.

According to Soomro, the decision has been taken with the aim of improving things for the teachers and staff by solving their issues and decentralising the powers, so that everyone can work accordingly and only one man will not be burdened. "The secretary is burdened by all these issues, [but] after this step he can perform his duties better," Soomro said.
