Khawaja Asif confident that ‘power supply situation’ will improve

Minister terms shortage of water in rivers as reason behind current load-shedding in Pakistan

As the summer season approaches, the ministry of water and power sticks to its usual claim of improving power supply situation in the country provided the flow of water in rivers surges.

According to the Federal Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Asif, energy supply will witness major improvements nationwide with an increased flow of water in rivers expected in April.

While talking to a private channel, the minister termed the shortage of water in rivers the chief reason behind the current state of load-shedding in Pakistan, reported Radio Pakistan.



He said the present shortfall of 4,000MW to 4,500MW will also be overcome when the water supply situation makes progress.

Asif also revealed that his ministry saved Rs116 billion through the recovery of outstanding bills and by stopping the line losses.

The minister's statement came after a major breakdown occurred in Karachi, on Sunday, leaving a significant part of the city in complete darkness. However, the power supply was back after more than 10 of K-Electric’s 64 grid stations tripped Sunday evening, confirmed KE Communications Director Sadia Dada.

The affected areas included Defence Housing Authority, Clifton, Saddar, Keamari, Baloch Colony, PECHS, Lines Area, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Bahadurabad and University Road, amongst others.
