Protecting animals should be our mission too

ISLAMABAD: Much is being done for the welfare of animals and ecology conservation in the more civilised and democratic countries of the globe. Apparently their rulers and governments promote policies for the humane treatment of animals. Several vibrant bodies with different names such as the National Animal Welfare Advisory Committees/ Boards, National Animal Ethics Advisory Committees/ Boards work in those countries for the welfare of both domestic and wild animals. Even in Ethiopia and a few other African countries enviable sort of initiatives are being taken both for animal welfare and the protection of the natural environment.

But unfortunately nothing is being done both for the protection and conservation of ecology and welfare of animals in our country. What to speak of animal welfare and ecology where people are dying of hunger, thirst and deadly diseases. Visit Larkana or other parts of the province of Sindh and see the situation there.

It is also painful to see how both animals, apart from perhaps domesticated cats and dogs, and the environment suffer in the federal capital.
