Right to information: Multan chief engineer fined two salaries

Punjab Information Commission imposes fine for not providing information on its order.

LAHORE: The Punjab Information Commission has imposed a fine of two salaries on an executive engineer of the machinery division of Multan for not providing information on its order. Despite nine orders from the commission since March 7 last year, XEN Rana Muhammad Afzal did not even reply once. Muhammad Shafiq had filed a complaint against the XEN for not giving information. The commission has directed him to provide the requested information to the complainant before April 13 otherwise he will be penalised further. The commission directed the Multan district accounts officer to deduct the amount of fine from his salary in accordance with Rule 10(1)(d) of the Punjab Transparency and Right to Information Rules, 2014, and deposit it in the account set up for obtaining information and copies of public record, and furnish a compliance report to the commission before May 15.
