Rights of transgender persons

Letter April 02, 2017
The rights that they have been given on paper should be given in reality as well

KECH: There are only a few NGOs that stand up for the rights of a largely neglected and underprivileged community of Pakistan: transgender folk. There are an estimated 500,000 third-gender citizens in Pakistan. Five years ago, members of the transgender community were given a few legal rights, but to their dismay, they were only guaranteed those on paper. If they belong to the third-gender that doesn’t mean they don’t have talents, skills or that they should be far from such facilities. We need to be helpful towards them and give their rights because they are humans; they deserve rights and a normal life. The rights that they have been given on paper should be given in reality as well.
