LAHORE: The Federal Government of Pakistan has reportedly offered financial help to veteran television actor Naila Jaffri, who is suffering from cancer and is under treatment at the Liaquat National Hospital in Karachi. According to reports, the actor will be given Rs1 million.

"The government has taken notice of Naila Jaffri’s illness and her case was brought forward in front of all members of the Cabinet Division. The Artist Welfare Fund has decided to give her an amount of Rs1 million for her contributions to Pakistani cinema. If she needs more help in the future, the government will bear all the expenses,” a source from the federal government told The Express Tribune.

Other Pakistani artists have also voiced their concern in support of Jaffri. “Artists in Karachi and some philanthropists are also helping Naila Jafri. It is not fair that so many other artists have received no support from the government though,” said renowned actor Bushra Ansari. Actor Sheeba Butt echoed Ansari’s sentiments, adding the artist community should unite to help Jaffri as well.

"Naila has served the entertainment industry for so long. At a time when she needs help, the entire artist community should come together,” added Butt. “We should also inquire senior artists about what they are doing for Naila Jafri,” said senior artist Qavi Khan.

Writer Asghar Nadeem Syed shared the Sindh government should also come forward to help Jaffri. “The Federal government is supporting Naila and I feel the Sindh government should help her out also,” he said.
