DIG Muhammad Khalid Khattak has been given the additional charge of IG for a period of three months.
On March 20, the provincial government requested the services of Yasin from the Establishment Division.
Sources attributed this to the fact that Yasin is likely to take over as Punjab IG when the post falls vacant on April 10.
Talking to The Express Tribune, Yasin said that he was happy to serve in the Punjab Police or anywhere else the government placed him.
Other officers in the running t become Punjab's top cop include Lahore CCPO Captain (retd) Amin Wanis, Punjab Operations AIG Capt (retd) Arif Nawaz, Punjab Special Branch AIG Faisal Shahkar, and Punjab Highway Patrolling (PHP) AIG Amjad Saleemi.
A pending petition: IGP’s appointment linked to court decision
On Thursday, Lahore High Court Chief Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah made the appointment of the new IG police Punjab conditional to a court decision on a petition challenging the process.
The CJ observed there seemed to have been negligence in fully implementing the Police Order 2002. The court sought replies from Advocate Khawaja Harris and Advocate Asma Jahangir.
According to the Police Order, the provincial government shall post a police officer of the rank of IG as a provincial police officer, provided that the federal government places his services at the disposal of the province.
The selection is to be made out of a panel of three police officers recommended by the National Public Safety Commission from a list provided by the federal government.
Five federal secretaries transferred
Meanwhile, five PAS officers were transferred with the approval of Prime Minister.
Muhammad Jilal Sikandar, a BS-21 PAS officer working as Azad Jammu and Kashmir chief secretary, has been transferred and posted as an Aviation Division additional secretary. Water and Power Secretary Muhammad Younus Dagha, a BS-22 PAS officer, is the new commerce secretary.

Planning, Development and Reforms secretary Muhammad Younaf Naeem Khokhar, a BS-22 PAS officer, will replace Dagha as water and power secretary.
Aviation Secretary Squadron Leader (retd) Muhammad Irfan Elahi, a BS-22 PAS officer, has been appointed as the as division, has been transferred and posted as secretary planning, development and reforms division. Commerce Secretary Azmat Ali Ranjha, a BS-22 PAS officer, has been ordered to report to the establishment division.
