PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court on Thursday summoned the chief secretary, secretary local council board, commissioner and deputy commissioner of Peshawar so that charges could be framed against them for not complying with a court order.

The officials have been summoned for not implementing court’s continuous directions and orders to wind up commercial activities in University Town area. The ruling was given by a division bench headed by Justice Waqar Ahmad Seth.

The bench also ordered them to appear along with relevant record of what they had implemented after the judgment of the court.

The bench also ordered the government to give a four-month time to clinics, hospitals and educational institutions to shift their businesses.

The bench ruled that all the premises against which notices have been served and premises which are being used for commercial activity be sealed immediately. However, the court barred the government from vacating premises which are being used as residence.

The bench ordered that action should be taken against all those officials who remained in office and did not follow the judgment delivered by the PHC on October 30 2013, through which commercial activities were to be banned in the university town.
