RAWALPINDI: With at least three people killed and two injured after their necks were slashed by stray kite strings, the Rawalpindi police launched a massive crackdown on Thursday, arresting nine people and seizing hundreds of kites and rolls of twine. According to details, a police team headed by Pirwadhai station SHO Mustafa Kamal Niazi set up a special checkpoint at the General Bus Stand. They stopped a passenger bus for checking. During the inspection, police found 2, 083 kites along with 532 rolls of metal twine. Besides seizing the kites, the police arrested the bus’ driver Arshad, and kite dealer Hafiz Rizwan. Niazi said the dealer had brought the kites and the string from Faisalabad and was taking the merchandise to a market in Puaran Qillah for sale.
