Train accidents can be prevented

Khawaja Saad Rafiq continues to engage in political debates while ignoring the problems that train passengers face

TURBAT: Just this week a blaze swept through a train after it collided with an oil tanker near Sheikhpura’s Hiran Minar railway station. Three people, including the driver and his assistant, were killed as a result. Over the past three years, more than 300 lives have been lost in accidents involving trains.

Behind almost every accident there was negligence and carelessness on the part of someone or the other. Sometimes trains do not receive signals, other times rail tracks haven’t been mended. Investigations are carried out but no action seems to be taken. Things remain the same and Railways Minister Khawaja Saad Rafiq continues to engage in political debates while ignoring the problems that train passengers face. Rail authorities need to take action as soon as possible to prevent these accidents.
