ISLAMABAD: Pakistan is among the top water insecure countries in the world and it needs to work with all stakeholders to preserve its water sources.

This was noted by speakers at a seminar on ‘Why Waste Water’, organised by the Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI) on Tuesday.

Speakers said that a majority of the country’s population lacks access to safe drinking water and urged conservation of the resource.

They said serious and collaborated efforts at every level were required to respond to the challenge of safe potable water.

Pakistan Council for Research in Water Resources (PCRWR) Chairman Dr Muhammad Ashraf said that water is the most precious resource on the earth and demands careful usage. Moreover, he said that contaminated water was damaging food resources and the eco-systems.

“We have a drinking water policy but there are gaps in implementation and thus it is time to raise awareness about the water crisis among the people,” Ashraf said.
