KARACHI: A judicial magistrate remanded on Tuesday a constable to police custody for three days. The officer was accused of injuring three people in a firing incident on a bus in Nazimabad.

The police presented constable Naseer before the District Central judicial magistrate to seek his remand for questioning him. The judge approved the remand for three days.

The constable has been accused of opening fire on a passenger bus in Nazimabad No 2 as the driver, Khalid, did not stop on his signal. Three passengers, Mehtab, 30, Umair, 24, and Golanu, 24, were injured in the incident.

The driver complained that Naseer opened indiscriminate fire on his bus, which resulted in casualties. According to the driver, he had sped to overtake a dumper truck when the policeman opened fire.

Meanwhile, the accused maintained that he heard cries from inside the bus and when he signalled it to stop for an inquiry, the driver sped. There appeared to be some suspicious activity inside the bus, therefore, Naseer fired shots in order to stop it.

The case is registered with the Nazimabad police station under Section 324 (committing injury with intent to cause death) of the Pakistan Penal Code, 1860.
