Presidents confers civil awards on Pakistan Day

The President and PM confer civil awards while Governor and CM Sindh pay tribute to the founder on Pakistan Day.

ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari conferred the civil and military awards for outstanding individuals at the investiture ceremony here at the Aiwan-e-Sadr on Wednesday.

Prime Minister Syed Yusaf Raza Gilani, Federal Ministers, Parliamentarians, Services Chiefs, Islamabad-based diplomats and prominent citizens also attended the ceremony.

President Zardari decorated both civil and military personnel with medals along with foreign nationals for their services to Pakistan.

Over 217 individuals were conferred awards at the ceremony in which the President gave away around 120 civil and 10 military awards in different categories.

The rest of the awards were given at separate ceremonies held at the provincial headquarters. The Provincial Governors decorated 48 individuals in Lahore, 22 in Karachi, eight in Peshawar, four in Quetta and one in Gilgit.

The Pakistan Civil Awards are given in recognition to the contribution of men and women who rendered commendable services to the country in their respective fields.

The Pakistan Civil Awards were established on March 19, 1957. The announcement of the civil awards is usually made on the Independence Day and the investiture on the following on Pakistan Day.

The awards are conferred for bravery, heroism, courage and rendering of dedicated services with selfless devotion in human rights and public services.

President Zardari and the Prime Minister later joined the guests at a reception.

Tribut to the Quiad on Pakistan Day

Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan and Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah visited the Mazar-e-Quaid and offered the Fateha on the occasion of Pakistan Day.

They were accompanied by Provincial ministers along with representatives of the three armed forces, Deputy DG Rangers Sindh, Administrator Karachi and leaders of various political and social parties.

The Governor and the Chief Minister stressed the need to follow the teachings of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah to ensure progress and prosperity of the country.

Tightdhoti | 13 years ago | Reply @Arsalan: Would you care to share who pays for the development of the plots? Who does the DHA and the AWT get the land from to begin with? Do Army officers pay the cost price? The taxpayers foot the development costs, the DHA and AWT forecebly evict people to get the land, and there is no way Army officers pay the market price for the property. Dont NCOs and jawans have familys? Why dont they get any plots in DHA? They may have families and responsibilities but that doesnt mean that they have the right to trample over other families to gain their wealth. Please do go down to the villages along the Islamabad highway and ask them how they came to be there.They were evicted from their own property in what is now DHA Phase 2 and Phase 2 extension. They were promised 54000 in compensation per kanal with 4000 tobe deducted in administration charges in 1994. They havnt seen a penny yet, and now they work as labourers building other peoples houses on what is their own land. And please dont talk about best managment of DHA and AWT. DHA Is 12 billion indebt to Askhari bank and hasnt made interest payments in two years. Now its recieving alternative funding from Malik Riaz and Bahria Town. Best management practices indeed.

They payment is equal to the cost of land purchased by original owner and development charges. Sometime market value go up due to best management of DHA or AWT but who stop out civilian bros to have same kind of management and get benefited. Instead of burning blood about plots, house, salary of mil ppl, there is no to realize that they are also human beings and they do have families and responsibilities. A major, which is bulk, is retired at the age of 43 years from Army. If he try to get a job in civil he is considered an intruder and unwanted.

Mohammad Ali Siddiqui | 13 years ago | Reply With few exceptions, Presidential Awards are distributed among the favorite personnel. I have been watching the list very closely for the last few years and found that Presidential Awards given to civilians (except those of bravery) are purely based on pampering by the civil servants and businessmen. There are number of people in the private sector who have done lot more in every sphere of life but they are neglected not only once, twice or thrice but for uncounted years.
