BAHAWALPUR: In an ongoing crackdown against spurious dugs, the health department in the city sealed 12 medical stores on violation of rules and samples of 78 medicines were sent to the laboratories to access their quality.

Chief Executive Officer Health Department Bahawalpur Dr Syed Asghar said the health department would strictly deal with people who were playing with the lives of masses. He said 210 medical stores and clinics were checked throughout the district. The health department has sealed 12 medical stores and samples of 78 medicines were sent to laboratories.

The dealers of spurious and substandard medicines were the enemies of humanity and crackdown has been launched against such elements by the Punjab government.

He said the people who were involved in this illegal business would be taken to task and several medical stores and clinics have been sealed and samples sent to laboratories. Dr Asghar said two cases sent to the Punjab Quality Control Board and 12 cases to the District Quality Control Board.

He said the drug court has imposed fines of Rs429,000 for violation of rules. In the last one week, 73 clinics and medical stores were checked after which four medical stores were sealed and seven cases were sent to the District Quality Control Board, Bahawalpur.

“People who are involved in supplying and selling spurious drugs; do not deserve any leniency. Strict action will be taken against medicals stores operating without the license,” he warned.
