Pregnant women in the upper and lower region district are at risk due to their poor nutritional diet

ISLAMABAD: Reports reveal that umpteen girls and women, among others, suffer from an acute deficiency of vitamin D or calcium and in many cases deficiencies of both in different parts of the upper and lower region districts in the province of Sindh. Many women in Larkana and Sukkur divisions are reported to be suffering from the deficiency of essential micronutrients such as iron, folate, calcium, vitamin D and vitamin A.

Pregnant women in the upper and lower region district are at risk due to their poor nutritional diet. Approximately 70 per cent of pregnant women in Sindh have anemia. The number of maternal mortality in the districts of Larkana division is indeed alarming.

Our cash-crazy rulers are doing nothing for girls and women in the province. However, women’s health and human rights bodies such as WHO, FAO, Unicef, USAID, among others, are requested to take practical steps to save the lives of Sindhi girls and women suffering from the deficiency of essential micronutrients.
