Making Balochistan polio-free

Letter March 24, 2017
Last year, Punjab was the only province which was tagged polio-free

TURBAT: On 27th March, a three-day anti-polio campaign will be launched in 29 districts of Balochistan to ensure that each child is vaccinated and protected from the crippling disease. For this, more than 2.4 million children up to the age of five will be vaccinated during this campaign. Over 9,000 mobile teams have been selected to make this campaign successful.

I appreciate the efforts made by the Health Department of Balochistan for launching such campaigns in different districts of the province to protect the young generation. In the last three years, cases of polio have decreased in the province. In the year 2015 seven cases were recorded, it dropped to only two cases in 2016 and this year there has been no case of polio that has been reported.

Last year, Punjab was the only province which was tagged polio-free. This year the successful polio campaigns can achieve the target to make Balochistan a polio-free province as well.
