Waste not want not: Conserve water, protect sources

MANSEHRA: Students, academicians and researchers on Wednesday called for preserving water and protecting its natural sources for future generations.

A pledge in this regard was made at an event to mark World Water Day at the Hazara University. Department of Tourism and Department of Religious Studies at the varsity had jointly organised a seminar in this regard.

Speakers urged the need for preserving and utilising rainwater for meeting needs in areas which were facing water shortage.

With the climate changing globally, speakers noted that access to fresh, potable water was on the decline. They warned that the situation could turn into a natural disaster in the future unless policy makers did not swing into action on time and address the problem on a war footing.

Islamic and Religious Studies Department Chairman Dr Azkia Hashmi referred to different religious text and quotations highlighting the importance of conserving water sources.

He urged the audience to start conserving water and stop waste. Later the students of the University Public School also staged a walk carrying placards and banners on conserving water.
