KARACHI: In an unusual incident, a 45-year-old handicapped man fell off a three-storey building in North Karachi neighbourhood on Wednesday.
The incident took place when a census team, along with security personnel, entered the street of the deceased.

He was critically injured and taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

The deceased resided in an apartment on the third floor of Matin Avenue and had moved there a week ago. Initial investigations suggested that the deceased committed suicide as he was believed to have been facing some financial problems and had a dispute with his family.

"Nobody was at his home when the incident occurred," said Bilal Colony SHO Muhammad Mohsin, adding that it seemed that the man committed suicide due to financial problems and a family dispute.

The officer said the deceased was running a transport business in partnership and was in debt of nearly Rs500,000.

Meanwhile, the family of the deceased claimed that he was receiving threats from people from whom he had borrowed money. "They were threatening to get him arrested if he was not able to return their money," said the brother-in-law of the deceased.

He told The Express Tribune that the deceased saw the police moving towards his house at the same time and thought that the lender had brought police for his arrest though it was only the census security team.

The family claimed that the deceased first stood at a window but lost his balance and fell to the second floor and then onto the road.
