SUKKUR: A census team was attacked by armed men when it reached Lakhan Lashari village situated within the limits of the Jarwar police station near Mirpur Mathelo, Ghotki district, on Wednesday.

A census team reached Lakhan Lashari village to conduct head count. As soon as the team, comprising an enumerator, policeman and army soldier, entered the village, two armed men opened fire on them. Fortunately no one was hurt. The policeman immediately passed on the information to the control room and a heavy contingent of law enforcers reached the spot.

The police later managed to arrest two people identified as Yasin Golo and Abdul Wajid Golo and recovered two pistols from their possession.

A Mirpur Mathelo-based reporter claimed that the armed men who opened fire on the census team had sown Bhang over 1.5 acres of land. Mistaking the census team as a raiding police party, they opened fire to scare them away. A case has been registered against them at the Jarwar police station.
