Two police officials killed as train rams into their vehicle

A sub-inspector, constable are in critical condition

NOWSHERA: Two police officials were killed on Tuesday when a train hit a police convoy in Nowshera.

According to a Rescue 1122 official, Azakhel police station SHO and a constable were killed, while a sub-inspector and another constable were seriously injured when their van was overrun by Kushal Express.

SHO Hameen Khan, sub-inspector Akhtar Hussain and their colleagues were on routine patrolling in the area when the train hit the convoy leaving it completely destroyed, a local said.

As a result of the incident, SHO Khan and Constable Ziaur Rehman were killed, while Hussain and constable Zabihullah were seriously injured, witness Azeemullah said. Some passengers received minor injuries in the accident, he added.

Railway accident: Traffic between Sindh, Punjab suspended

The locals shifted the injured police officer and constable to Lady Reading Hospital in Peshawar for treatment. They are said to be critical.

The rail department has suspended railway traffic as authorities are working in the area to clear the track.

Last month, railway traffic between Sindh and Punjab was suspended due to derailment of three wagons of a Punjab-bound goods train. Three wagons of a Punjab-bound goods train were derailed when it was travelling between Daharki and Reti railway stations. As a result, railway traffic has been suspended between Sindh and Punjab. The technical team of the railway, along with heavy machinery, reached the spot and began repair work.
