Persian New Year: G-B marks Nauroz on Tuesday

People of Gilgit Baltistan celebrated this festival with great fanfare since centuries

Traditional festival Nauroz will be celebrated in Gilgit-Baltistan on Tuesday. The day marks the beginning of the New Year in the Persian calendar. District administration Gilgit has announced local holiday on account of the festival. People of Gilgit Baltistan have celebrated this festival with great fanfare since centuries. Local games like polo, traditional musical programmes are organised on this happy occasion that marks the beginning of spring. Special dishes are also prepared and shared with relatives and friends. Women and children dress up, greet friends and family each visit each other’s’ homes. At some places special congregations are also held where special prayers are offered for prosperity of the country.
