FIA arrests two Chinese nationals in Karachi

Suspects had attached and detached a skimming device to ATM

KARACHI: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) claimed to have arrested two Chinese nationals from Karachi.

According to an official of the FIA who requested anonymity, the FIA officials had received complaints on March 10 from the branch manager of Bank alHabib, Chartered Accountant Avenue Branch, Karachi, that two Chinese nationals had attached and detached the skimming device along with a spy camera panel at the branch and captured the cards’ data that were genuinely used at the ATM.

The officer further said that the FIA team under the supervision of sub-inspector Akbar Khan reached the mentioned address and examined the activities of suspected Chinese nationals on CCTV camera of the bank ATM with the staff of the bank.

In the CCTV monitoring and examination, two suspected Chinese national could be seen approaching the ATM and withdrawing the skimming device, said FIA officials. The raiding party of FIA cybercrime and bank staff rushed to the ATM machine, apprehended the culprits and took them inside the bank premises for interrogation and investigation.

He said that in light of the facts and evidences, it was concluded that they committed the offence punishable under Sections 3, 4, 13, 14 of Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) 2016 read with Sections 420 and 109 of the Pakistan Penal Code. A case was also registered against Chinese nationals who were identified as Zhong Xianquan and Zhong Xianming.
