Being resourceful in the kitchen only has advantages and delicious ones. A simple ingredient such as mayonnaise can be enhanced to create an exciting new dip or sauce, and if you know how to make your own mayonnaise, even better.

If you make your own mayonnaise you can also control the fat content by using healthier oils such as olive oil or avocado oil. Not only that, you can create flavours all your own to go with sandwiches, wraps or fries. While store bought mayonnaise will also suffice for this purpose but you will be far more satisfied with home-made.

Here are seven ideas for delicious and flavoured mayonnaise:

Sesame oil

Sesame oil mayonnaise is the perfect accompaniment to an eggplant and tomato sandwich and goes deliciously well with roasted vegetables and lamb. However, because sesame oil has a strong flavour it should be used sparingly. A few drops in half a cup of mayonnaise should be enough.

Roasted garlic

While healthiest eaten raw, roasted garlic is the most beautiful way to use garlic if you have concerns about the strong flavour and aroma. Soft, caramelised and mildly aromatic, roasted garlic takes on a beautiful new texture and develops and almost sweetish flavour. Mash and toss it into your mayonnaise to make a perfect sauce for your fries, chicken or use it in a tomato sandwich with some salt and black pepper.

Yoghurt and herbs

This one is delicious with kebabs, salads, burgers and also makes delicious and creamy coleslaw. Add some chopped up gherkins to make a perfect dip for crisps and nachos. Fresh herbs such as parsley and dill are perfect. Otherwise, any dry herbs can be substituted.

Sriracha

Mix a spoonful of Sriracha in half a cup of mayonnaise to make Sriracha mayonnaise. It’s as simple as that and absolutely delicious. Add grated garlic and some lemon juice for some extra flavour and zing. This one goes very well with sautéed or fried seafood and need I even say it – fries.

Miso paste

A Japanese staple, miso paste is made by fermenting soybeans and has an umami flavour. Described in the early 1900s Umami translates as savoury or meaty. Mix it into mayonnaise to create a scrumptious condiment you will love forever.  Have it with grilled meat and fish or with Tempura.

Basil mayonnaise

This zingy combination is perfect stirred in pastas, poured onto sautéed meat or with fries. A sprinkling of parmesan is a great addition if you’re feeling adventurous.

Roasted red pepper

Roasted red pepper is delicious as it makes wonderful salsa and pasta sauce. It also lends a delicious flavour to mayonnaise. Combine it with some lemon, paprika and cumin to give it some zip. Roasted pepper mayonnaise goes very well with grilled vegetables, savoury pies , in a sandwich and of course with fries.
