Professional biker killed in road accident in Karachi

KARACHI: A professional biker was killed after his motorcycle crashed into a car near Do-Darya in Karachi's Defence Phase 8 on Wednesday night.

Arshad Mehmood Butt, who leaves behind two children and a wife, met the fatal accident while riding with a group of bikers in Phase 8. According to details, Butt's motorcycle collided with a Honda Civic when the car suddenly made a U-turn and came right in front of the rider, killing him on the spot.

Despite the fact that Butt was wearing a helmet, the deadly collision took his life. He was an active member of Throttle Shrottle, a biker's group, and also participated in Distinguished Gentlemen Ride, organised worldwide last year.

A fellow biker, Hamza Butt shared on Facebook that he was riding with Arshad and the accident happened within seconds.

"A good friend, our big brother Arshad Mehmood Butt just died in accident during tonight's ride. I can't believe what happend, he was riding beside me and everything happened just in a few seconds," he wrote.

Knight | 7 years ago | Reply I want to share my personal experence of bikes in Pakistan I own a cd70 bike and a car too I have experenced the CD70's Breaks are so useless some times i pray to God let my bike stop before hiting car in front of me because CD70 is technology from 1970's what can you expect from them. Car and bike assemblers are lotting people by selling outdated technologies, on other hand car can stop very quickly if you hit your breaks but biker who is behind you doesn't have disc breaks if your car has ABS it will make it stop even quicker. From my point of view if you try to break too hard on CD70 or CD125 which has outdated drum breaks can either get out of control and slip on road or you will hit car in front of you. now a days yamaha and suzuki has better breaks but its too expensive for poor people.

ToThePoint | 7 years ago | Reply Condolences for the deceased and his family. I don't know the actual facts but judging by the damage to the motorcycle and the car, it seems as if the accident happened at very high speed. That makes it a serious error of judgement for both sides at least.

Jamal | 7 years ago | Reply From the pics it certainly seems to be a high velocity impact. The biker apparently rammed into the car at full throttle. Driving in the city for some time now I can safely say that the bikers here do not care for either themselves, their passengers or other drivers on the road. I have seen them colliding with cars standing at traffic lights, coming wrong way and thrashing into vehciles etc. I usually drive with my foot on brake whenever a biker comes near me.

Jalal | 7 years ago | Reply I live in Phase 8 peninsula and I've seen that there's no speed breaker at the tip of the horse shoe what is called the Do Darya.This big U-Shape with no speed barrier invites these thrill seekers to show their temptations to feel the speed mastery... It is very wisely said that speed thrills but kills...I feel sorry for the deceased and his family....DHA must take a note of this serious lapse and immediately ban this menace of bike racing before more accidents occur. DHA must mitigate this risk factor...

Bingo | 7 years ago | Reply As much as it is the car drivers fault, it is also the biker's fault as well. Just because he was wearing a helmet and protection gear, didnt give him the right to overspeed. Feel bad for the family. My condolences.

Drivins | 7 years ago | Reply Motorcycle riders are the most dangerous, they drive recklessly, break traffic rules,weave in and out of traffic, do not keep to their lane, try to slip in the narrowest of gaps between vehicles, try to overtake at every opportunity, underage boys are the most dangerous. Compulsory lessons have to be given to our drivers and lessons need to be given for all drivers on traffic rules, road sense, etiquette, traffic laws and signs.

salman | 7 years ago | Reply @Last Man Alive, without seeing it by yourself you decided that it was mistake by the biker ? Agree that generally bikers ride very rough, but you cant apply this to every case. Moreover Car drivers are also not always drive safe.

bashir gul | 7 years ago | Reply The traffic controlling in Karachi should be handed over to the Rangers. Only then will riders and drivers will learn to follow traffic rules. Its so common to see people driving on the wrong side, crashing signals, overtaking recklessly, especially the rickshaws and public transport. Even professional drivers err and that costs them their life.
