KARACHI: A judicial magistrate issued on Tuesday show-cause notice to a South zone police superintendent for not complying with court orders to develop a website to locate the heirs of unidentified and unclaimed bodies.

The court had earlier ordered the police to create a website and put all available information about unclaimed bodies lying in mortuaries or buried in order to make headway in finding their heirs.

The show-cause notice was issued to South Investigation-II SP Pir Fareed Jan Sirhandi for not complying with court orders and submitting a report explaining the efforts being made and, if any, the hindrances in the proceedings.

The magistrate observed that the SP also failed to appoint within the stipulated time an investigation officer in the unclaimed bodies case to file the final report with the court.

The court summoned SP Sirhandi in court on Saturday, March 18, to explain his position.

On a previous hearing, the primary investigating officer, Zahid Hussain Shah, had stated in the interim investigation report that the bodies of five men, who were found shot dead near the Lyari river within the limits of Mauripur police station in the middle of the preceding year, still remained unidentified.

The police have recommended the case to be classified as A-class (blind case) as during the course of investigation, no trace to the culprits was found.
