Molly Crabapple, an award winning artist recently visited Lahore to speak at the Lahore Literary Festival (LLF).

Crabapple who has contributed to reputed media houses such as CNN and the New York Times, is best known for illustrated journalism.

She has reported from and drawn in areas around the world from Guantanamo Bay to the West Bank.

Speaking to the Express Tribune, Crabapple says she uses her “sketchpad sort of like a photojournalist uses his camera.”

While in Pakistan, Crabapple gave lectures at two art colleges in the walled city and visited historical places such as Anarkali Bazar, Data Darbar and Lahore Fort.

Woman who travelled to 196 countries puts Pakistan in her top 5

Crabapple told the Express Tribune she had always dreamt of visiting Lahore ever since she “saw the magnificent buildings during a class in Islamic art history [she] took in university.”

She also shared her drawings of the Lahore Fort and Data Darbar on Twitter.

Data Darbar is what struck her the most, where she enjoyed an amazing evening. She says she “was awed by the beauty and deep spirituality of the shrine.”

While she was unable to visit any other cities, she hopes that this isn't her last trip to Pakistan.

As for her favourite part of the trip, she says it was "sitting with a friend at a tea stall in Anarkali bazaar sketching the streets around me."
