Japan gives NUML Rs8.7m grant

Fund meant for Japanese language department at varsity

ISLAMABAD: To improve the learning environment and to procure equipment for the Japanese language department at the National University of Modern Languages, Tokyo on Monday gave the varsity a grant of Rs8.7 million.

In this regard, an agreement was signed between the Japanese Embassy Charge’d’ Affaires Junya Matsuura and NUML Rector Major General (retired) Ziauddin Najam.



The grant has been provided under the Grant Assistance for Cultural Grassroots Projects.

The grant would be utilised to buy new equipment for the Japanese language department at NUML such as computers, teaching and learning materials, air conditioners equipment, furniture and a server for distance learning.

Matsuura, while speaking at the signing ceremony, said that developing educational facilities was among the priorities of the Japanese government.

Noting that 2017 marks the 65th Anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Pakistan, he said that the grant assistance would help further strengthen relations between the two countries.

Matsuura expressed the hope that the improvement of learning environment at the centre would greatly benefit students of Japanese language at NUML.



NUML Rector Maj Gen Najam said that around 25 occidental and oriental languages are taught at the varsity.

He added that Pakistani students have a deep respect for the Japanese language and that assistance provided by Tokyo would help NUML further promote Japanese language.
