QUETTA: A provincial legislator accused Minister for Services and General Administration Nawab Shawani during Friday’s session of allegedly recruiting/distributing 400 posts through draws instead of merit.
Speaking on the floor of the Balochistan Assembly, opposition MPA Sardar Abdul Rehman Khetran claimed that he was a witness to the draws recruiting 400 people. Former finance minister Mir Asim Kurd endorsed Khetran’s stance claiming that jobs were distributed through lottery instead of following the established legal procedure for recruitment.
Some of the ministers present did not defend Shawani, saying that he would defend his own actions upon returning to the house.
Most of the members, including MPAs from the treasury benches, registered their strong protest over the illegal recruitment of people against 400 posts and censured the decision violating the laws of the land. They termed it a ‘murder of merit’.
At this point, Agriculture and Finance Minister Sardar Aslam Bizenjo blamed the outgoing chief minister for making appointments of Grade 18 officers at his will in violation of the laws of the land.
Acting chairperson Yasmeen Lehri gave her ruling to form a committee on civic issues of Quetta, including traffic snarls and congestion, constantly overflowing gutters and spread of diseases polluting the entire atmosphere.
All the six members of the assembly from the provincial capital will be members of the committee besides a score of other MPAs including Shahida Rauf, Dr Shama Ishaq, Majeed Achakzai, Ghulam Dastaghir Badini, Sardar Raza Bareech and Zamruk Khan. The Quetta committee was asked to submit its reports within 30 days.
The assembly session started late and a number of MPAs registered their strong protest claiming that the session was delayed as MPAs were forced to wait for a minister to participate in the proceedings.
Dr Hamed Achakzai of Pashtoonkhwa Milli Awami Party rejected the allegation that the assembly session was willfully delayed. He said the assembly session should not be delayed in the future as it is a violation of rules of procedure and all the members should return to the house in time.
