ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan ordered the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Friday to conduct an impartial probe into Pakistan Super League (PSL) spot-fixing scandal without being any undue influence.

The FIA has submitted its initial report to the minister on the PSL spot-fixing matter which highlighted measures adopted during PSL games to redress the issue and also pointed out possibility of involvement of certain players.

In a statement issued here, Ch Nisar directed the FIA to complete the investigation as soon as possible.

The minister said it is not a matter of personal act of few cricketers but such issues affect the country’s reputation as well. Therefore, detailed probe into this matter is necessary, he said.

Those responsible for spot-fixing would be determined after going through information provided by Pakistan Sports Board (PCB) and examining the forensic evidence.

The issue of recovering messages from mobile phones of certain players was also being reviewed to ascertain contacts of players with bookies and also what matters were agreed upon amongst them.

Meets ambassador-designate

Bilateral ties between Pakistan and the United States should be boosted without compromising the country’s sovereignty and national dignity, the interior minister said on Friday.

He was talking with Pakistan’s ambassador-designate to the US, Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry, who called on the minister here.

Both Chaudhry Nisar and Aizaz Ahmad exchanged views on Pakistan-US relations and the emerging regional situation.

Mechanism for quick settlement

Also on Friday, the interior minister ordered the Capital Development Authority (CDA) to approach buyers for evolving a mechanism for quick settlement of their investment dues in One Constitution Avenue.

PSL corruption case: Former players call for strict action

He was chairing a meeting to look into issues relating to the One Constitution Avenue after a judgment of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) in the case.

Chaudhry Nisar directed the FIA and office of advocate-general to take up the case with the IHC for vacating the stay order on the agency’s inquiry against the builder and CDA officials in the case.
