There’s a secret version of Tinder for hot people and you can’t use it

Tinder Select is 'for celebrities and people who do really well on Tinder'

Popular dating app Tinder has been operating a secret, invite-only tier, it has emerged.

According to a report published in TechCrunch, Tinder Select  is exclusively meant to serve elite users on the app, including CEOs, super models and other hyper-attractive/upwardly affluent types.

Quoting a source who has been using the app, the report said that the app is “for celebrities and people who do really well on Tinder.”

How it works

Apparently, Tinder invited people to the secret platform and gave some of them options to nominate other people. However, in order to prevent the members-only layer of the app from spreading, the nominees are restricted from extending invites to anyone to join the Tinder Select ranks.



Although the criteria that Tinder follows while sending invites is not clear, the commonality among those on Tinder Select is that they’re generally attractive and relatively high-profile.

Tinder’s Elo score might be one of the factors the company use to decide who gets invited to members-only club. “Elo score,” which is basically a term used in chess world to rank player skill levels, is Tinder’s rating system which helps it parse its user base in order to facilitate better matches.

The selected users also have the toggle between regular Tinder and Tinder Select, which makes sense given Tinder Select may have a smaller pool of users in certain markets.

Visually, instead of the usual pinkish orange interface, Tinder Select has its own style with navy blue colour accents.

The fact that Tinder Select has been around for almost six months at least and it has been kept secret suggests that the company does not have any immediate plans to announce the service

When approached by the TechCrunch for comment on Tinder Select, the company unsurprisingly remained tight-lipped.
