'PAF on high alert'

Pakistan is reported to have intensified air patrols over tribal areas, especially North Waziristan, putting the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) at a higher alert level.

BBC Urdu quoted air force sources as saying that some orders were issued at the “highest level on an emergency basis, including cancellation of leaves of all personnel involved in air reconnaissance”.

They added that leaves of all personnel stationed at air bases and air headquarters have also been cancelled and workers at sensitive installations have been asked to ensure presence of all personnel on Saturday and Sunday.

Sources also said that some operational changes had been made but they had been kept secret, but they believed that they were related to round-the-clock active  reconnaissance in tribal areas. They said that these administrative and operational changes were part of Pakistan’s move to quickly respond to drone threats over its territories.

The spokesperson for the Pakistan Air Force has declined to confirm or deny the reports.

However, he said that the air force chief had given his viewpoint on drone strikes a year ago, which was still valid in view of the current developments.

Raj | 13 years ago | Reply Does one really see the timing ! Raymond davis is released day before, perhaps the army is also learning from government how to keep the masses quiet thru some PR exercise!!!! so can pakistan really use their US f16's to knock out the US drones??? lolllllllllll, its a joke!! All they need to do is get those local terrorists, trained and cultured by them for use against india, and others, to blow up the airforce base US is using on their so called Sovreign territory!!!!
Muslim | 13 years ago | Reply @Gulkhaiz The so called Milbus has had a lot of impact on the running of army. Can you define the creation of DHA in every city's prime areas in any other way. They get paid because "bloody civilians" pay for their salaries and arms and since they are paying without demanding so why protect them? FF and all other institutions are examples of mismanagement only if we can run a true audit then we will find that army is taking money like fortress statdium lahore, where they have taken 130 Billion+ in the past 30 years without a trace as to who operates this account and this is Auditor General of Pakistan and not a person with no idea about finance. Tell us about rogue politicians. They are not even a shadow of these thugs. If Pakistan is under occupation, then whose responsibility is it to free us? Besides, who will free us from armed men who claim to be our army but are actually front men for US and other forces. I don't want to use mercenaries in respect of hundreds of thousands of jawans who got into the force to protect their country but are actually hostage to a few of their high ranking officers who keep "conquering" and SELLING their nation in reward of "if some one accepts their legitimacy". Don't mind my comments. All of us love Pakistan as much as every one else. But to point to our own mistakes will help us solve them rather than looking to others to encourage us to do these again.
