SC to monitor Aamir Liaquat's show

Anchor has been asked to send a transcript of his show to the registrar's office on a daily basis

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court will now monitor Aamir Liaquat Hussain's programme 'Aisay Nahi Chalay Ga' on Bol News, which was earlier banned by the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra).

The anchor gave an undertaking before the Supreme Court stating he will not conduct any programme, which may promote hate or go against the ideology of Pakistan.

However, a three-judge bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar asked Aamir to send a transcript of his show to the registrar's office on a daily basis.

The bench warned the anchor that if he broadcasts any programme, which promotes hate or disturbs public peace, it will be taken as a violation of the order and contempt proceedings will be initiated against him.



The SC asked Pemra to decide all previous complaints received against the Bol News anchor within four days. The bench also decided to interpret Pemra's power, which allows the organisation to ban any TV programme over violation of its provisions.

Last month, the top court temporarily banned the show, which was first barred by Pemra in January for “preaching hate”. This was followed by a a show cause notice to Bol News for defying the media regulator’s orders. However, the channel managed to get a stay order from the Sindh High Court.
