KARACHI: Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2017 finally ended on Sunday amid much pomp and glory, with Peshawar Zalmi beating Quetta Gladiators to become the champions for the year.

The final match has been the hot topic for the media ever since it was announce that Lahore will be hosting it, despite a fragile law and order situation. However, there’s little that could stop a nation as fanatical about cricket as Pakistan. Contrary to popular opinion, the organisers managed to pull off an event that truly, brought the game back home.

For those of you who missed it, here are our picks for the five best moments from the PSL final.

When Ali Azmat reminded us he’s the king of Pakistani rock

There really is no denying this former Junooni’s performance chops. Ali delivered a near perfect rendition of the iconic Sufi hit Laal Meri Path as part of the match’s kick-off ceremony, showing us just why he’s hailed as the face of local rock music. Ali also sang Jazbaa Junoon, revving up the spirit at Gaddafi Stadium.

When Darren Sammy donned a pagri

When in Pakistan, do as the Pakistanis. This was what West Indian cricketer Darren Sammy apparently had in mind when he walked out sporting a traditional pagri for the post-match presentation ceremony. In fact, the Peshawar Zalmi captain kept it on throughout, giving his team’s supporters even more to admire him for.

When Darren Sammy danced with Farhad Humayun and Overload

Looks like Darren was bitten by the Lahori bug. The cricketer couldn’t help but shake a leg during Overload’s performance and what’s more, he brought along his teammates Kamran Akmal and Hasan Khan on stage with him! Talk about a fun captaincy…

When Faakhir’s ‘Tera Bina Dil Na Lage’ stirred patriotism in the air again

It’s really no wonder why Tere Bina Dil Na Lage is still as great a listen as it was back in the year 2000, when it originally came out. The catchy tune is enough to make your inner patriot come alive anytime and its impact was only doubled on Sunday when it mixed with the energy and celebration at the match. Faakhir’s colourful performance probably had all of Pakistan grooving together, if not just Lahore.

When Reham Khan appeared to be having a ball at the match

Yup… you may have missed her but Reham was definitely present at Gaddafi Stadium supporting none other than the Zalmis.

When Peshawar Zalmi did the Boom Boom for Shahid Afridi

It was a real pity that Shahid Afridi – arguably Pakistan’s most popular cricketer – had to sit out the PSL final due to a hand injury but his team Peshawar Zalmi made sure he was included in their victory. And they did so in the most adorable way: by posing like him. Yup, the entire team did Shahid’s ‘Boom Boom’ pose together. Now that’s what we call team spirit!
