Golfers raise funds for kids’ treatment

LAHORE: Golfers from across Punjab came together at the Defence Raya Golf and Country Club on Sunday to support Mending Kids’ Hearts, a cause initiated by the Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH) to raise awareness about congenital heart disease (CHD). About 60,000 children – one in every 100 infants born in Pakistan every year – are born with CHD, commonly referred to as a ‘hole in the heart’. Most of the kids do not survive beyond their first few years due to lack of awareness and inadequate diagnostic and treatment facilities. Apart from raising awareness, the AKU initiative raises funds over a game of golf to support the tiny CHD patients, whose families cannot afford the costs of the life-saving treatment.
