ABBOTTABAD: A teenaged girl committed suicide under mysterious circumstances in a remote Galiyat village, police said on Sunday.

Naveed, a resident of Bagh Bandi village, told Bagnotar police that Muhammad Shamraiz’s 19-year-old daughter, M*, got into an argument on Saturday afternoon over a petty family matter.

After few minutes, M went into her bedroom and locked the room from inside.

After a while, when she failed to come out the room, her mother knocked on the door. But when M did not respond to the repeated knocks, her mother and other family members became worried and broke into her room.

Naveed said that when they finally gained access to her room, they saw M unconscious. She was rushed to the Benazir Shaheed Teaching Hospital in Abbottabad.

Doctors at the hospital said that M had probably taken some poisonous substance. They were, however, unable to revive the young girl and she succumbed to the poison.

According to police the girl had consumed rodenticide which caused her death.
