ISLAMABAD: As part of a project to revamp street lights in the capital using light emitting diodes (LED) lights, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) and the Islamabad Metropolitan Corporation on Sunday said they had installed 516 LED lights on various major roads of the city in the past week.

Moreover, a number of underground cable faults were rectified while several street lights in different areas of the city were repaired.

In a meeting held at CDA Headquarters, chaired by Islamabad Mayor and CDA Chairman Sheikh Anser Aziz, the progress of street lights division of the Islamabad Metropolitan Corporation (IMC) was reviewed.

He said that replacing conventional street lights with LED lights would help save electricity.

Aziz directed all divisional heads of different divisions of Electrical and Maintenance department to personally monitor repair, maintenance and uplift of the street lighting system of the city.

The IMC is planning to replace all 40,000 conventional streetlights with LED lights over the next three months.

In the past week, the meeting was told that E&M’s sub division-I had installed 56 LED lights on Parbat Road in Sector F-7, 82 on Faisal Avenue, 56 on the Sector F-5 portion of Margalla Avenue.

Moreover, 366 LED lights were installed on the Nazimuddin Road on its portions falling in Sector F-6, Sector F-6 Markaz, Sector F-6/1, Sector F-7, Sector F-8/4 and further lights are still being installed on the road.

The meeting was also informed that burnt cables were replaced along streets in Sectors G-7/1, G-6/1, G-7, G-6/1-4, G-6/1-3, G-7/1, G-6/1-1, G-6/1-2, Constitution Avenue, Shaheed-e-Milat Road, Blue Area, SSP Office Road Diplomatic Road, Seventh Avenue, Atta Turk Road, Masjid Al-Hira and street 24 of Diplomatic Enclave.

Moreover, E&M’s sub division-III removed underground faults in Sectors F-8/1, G-9/3, G-8/2, G-11/1, G-10/3, G-8/2, G-11/2, G-11/1, G-11/4, G-9/2, G-9/1, G-10/2, G-8 Markaz and G-8/1. A transformer fault was removed on Nazimuddin Road in Sector F-8/1.

The meeting was briefed that Sub Division-II of E& M Directorate replaced two points in Shahzad Town, eight points in Margalla Town and six points on Islamabad Expressway. Further, 16 points on main Murree Road, four points, eight single points at P& V Scheme and one pole on the Expressway had been energised.

The meeting was further told that burnt transformer cables on Orchard Road, Sohan Signal were also replaced.

Moreover, E&M’s sub division-IV rectified various faults from Sectors I-10/4, I-9/1, I-8/1, I-8/4, I-8/3, I-9/4, I-10/2, H-8, I-8 Markaz, H-11, Kashmir Highway, Rawal Chowk and Khayaban-e-Suhrawardy.
