MANSEHRA: The District Police Office (DPO) Torghar has given directives to suspend two policemen for the alleged torture of a driver as well as to launch an inquiry into the charge.

Sources Saturday said that a driver from the Gowandla Khel area was going to Amazai when two police constables, identified as Qaiser and Bakht Munir, impounded his van and took him into custody at the local police station.

According to the driver, the police officials did not charge him with any offence and the arrest was arbitrary.

The alleged victim said he was subjected to physical torture and was eventually then allowed to leave without any case being registered against him.

The driver later filed an application with Torghar DPO Sardar Khan, who has given the order to the DSP Kandar Circle Syed Matloob Shah to launch an inquiry.

Based off initial reports, the DSP has held the two cops for wrongfully detaining and torturing the driver.

Following the DSP's report, the DPO gave the order to transfer the two officers to the Torghar police line.

He has also given the order for a further inquiry into the charges.

The complainant has been given assurances that legal action would be taken against the police personnel if they are found guilty.
