ISLAMABAD: The Special Investigation Unit (SIU) of Islamabad Police has nabbed two car lifters, a police spokesperson said on Saturday.

Police also recovered 2.3 kilogrammes of hashish from the possession of suspects Habibur Rehman and Tahir Habib, the spokesperson said.

The official added that the suspects, even before their visit to the remand room, had confessed to stealing numerous cars from Islamabad. The two had been caught by a police team formed to arrest those buying stolen cars.

According to the spokesperson, IGP Tariq Masood Yasin, in order to check the spike in auto thefts in Islamabad, directed SSP (Operations) Sajid Kiani and SP (Investigation) Muhammad Ilyas to constitute an SIU team.

The special team comprised SI Noorul Islam, ASIs Zohray Khan and Manzoor Ilahi. After monitoring several roads and pickets in the capital, the team managed to apprehend the duo.

SSP Islamabad has appreciated the performance of the officers.
