PESHAWAR: A District and Sessions Court on Friday ordered registration of an FIR against Jang Media Group’s owner Mir Shakilur Rehman and Geo’s senior anchors – Hamid Mir and Najam Sethi – for airing baseless contents against former army chief General Raheel Sharif regarding allotment of a plot.

Private complaint: Court declares Mir Shakil absconder

District and Sessions Judge Anwar Ali Khan gave the order on an application filed by an Allama Shoaib under 22-A. Arguing on the application, the applicant’s counsel Shan Asghar said the journalists claimed in their talk shows on January 25 that Gen Raheel got the land wrongfully allotted to him.

Baseless allegations: FIR registered against Geo owner, anchors

He said the anchors tried to damage Gen Raheel’s career and prestige and contended that the former army chief was properly allotted the land by the government. He requested the court to register an FIR against the suspects. Later, the court ordered SHO Gulberg police station to register a case.

Zaheer | 7 years ago | Reply This is not the first time that Jang group and Geo tv tried to malign our military leadership as the only desire of this group is to create controversies and their efforts are only to disrepute institution's leadership. How Hamid Mir tried to levied baseless allegations against our intelligence agencies is not a hidden fact. This group is only dancing on the directives of their masters who are the friends of India. The judiciary should take action against the group for defaming our national institutions.
