Police on Friday filed a challan before Judicial Magistrate Aamir Khalil terming actions of the constable, who had shot the driver of the car, as ‘unintentional’.
Early on February 3, constables Samiullah Niazi and Tariq were manning a check post on the IJP Road in Sector I-10/1 when a car driven by Taimur Riaz approached. Police claimed that the two officials signalled the car to stop. But when the car did not stop, Niazi allegedly opened fire on the car, killing Taimur.
Interestingly, police have listed Niazi’s fellow constable, Tariq, as one of the main witnesses to the incident. The girl accompanying Taimur at the time of the incident, was also named as a witness.
