JHELUM: Jhelum police have busted a gang of street criminals which had been preying on people along desolate stretches of inter-city roads, officials claimed on Wednesday.

Addressing a news briefing on Wednesday, Jhelum District Police Officer Hasan Asad Alvi said that the gang had been operating several areas of Punjab including Rawalpindi, Lahore, Kamoki, Muzaffargarh and Jhelum.

DPO Alvi also presented a victim of the robbers before the media.

Adnan, a resident of Mangla Town, narrated that he was travelling to Dinah on his motorbike when three men riding on another motorbike intercepted him near a graveyard.

“The robbers snatched my cash and cell phone and shot me before escaping,” Adnan said who had survived the attack.

The DPO said they managed to catch the robbers swiftly. The gang members were identified as Israr Khan, Waqar Ali, IrshadAli, Sabir Hussein and Shamsher Khan.
