KARACHI:
An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Monday ordered TV anchor Aamir Liaquat and top Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) - Pakistan leader Dr Farooq Sattar's names to be put on the exit control list (ECL).

Speaking to The Express Tribune, special public prosecutor Sheikh Sajid Mehboob said, "ATC-II ordered Farooq Sattar, Aamir Liaquat and Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui's names to be put on ECL in cases pertaining to the August 22 incendiary speech of party founder Altaf Hussain."

"The ATC-II judge also gave police 15 more days to make arrests of the absconding suspects," he added.

Non-bailable warrants issued for Farooq Sattar, others

Last month, an ATC once again issued non-bailable warrants of arrest for Sattar, his second-in-command and other leaders of the party in five amalgamated cases pertaining to Altaf Hussain's hate speech.

ATC-II ordered the police to arrest Sattar, Amir Khan, Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui and other top leaders of the party absconding in the cases and present them in court till January 31.

This time the ATC-II directed that warrants should be issued through the additional inspector general, a post equivalent to the city’s police chief, as investigation officers submitted that they were unable to arrest the absconders due to their political stature.
