KARACHI: The prestigious 89th Academy Awards seemed to be going smoothly on Sunday night, up until it was time for the final award giveaway: the much-coveted Best Picture announcement.

When presenter Warren Beatty went on stage to make the announcement, he never thought he would pull off a Steve Harvey. But the actor accidentally announced the award for the Actress in a Lead Role, which had already been given to Emma Stone for La La Land. 

Moonlight' wins best picture after major Oscars gaffe

The mistake was only realised when the entire cast and crew of La La Land was up on the stage, delivering its acceptance speech. The error was corrected and Moonlight was declared the rightful winner of the Best Picture trophy.
