ISLAMABAD: A Pakistan Army soldier was injured as terrorists from across the border opened fire at a check post in South Waziristan on Sunday evening.

“Terrorists fired from across the border in Mangrotai, South Waziristan Agency,” the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement.

The injured soldier was airlifted by helicopter and taken to a medical facility in Wana.

“Army troops effectively responded to suspected terrorists hideouts on the Pak-Afghan border,” the military’s media wing said.

Pakistan has been hit by a series of suicide bomb attacks in recent days, claiming more than 100 lives. In response, Pakistan Army launched a countrywide crackdown, Operation Radd-ul-Fasaad. It also closed the Torkham border crossing.
