This is all we want from our rulers
KARACHI: Residents of Gwadar have been facing an acute shortage of water since long. They have not received any water supply for the last two decades, while the problem of short and irregular supply has persisted for the last couple of years. Young people do not quite know what education is, nor student life because of this shortage of water. Children of Gwadar are always occupied with travelling long distances just to fill a glass of water. It is a gloomy situation that instead of children being able to enjoy their childhood and play freely, they are hostage to the regular search for water, sometimes even resulting in tricky or dangerous situations. In this modern era, in which people have travelled to the Moon, that too over 50 years ago, the people of our country are still in search of adequate water supply.
Thanks to the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, our government is about to change Gwadar into a mega city. As for as this concerns the hallmarks of a developed city, mandatory requirements are the facilities of water, gas, and electricity, which form the roots of a developed region. The prime minister should know that being a developing country, we do not need luxurious orange trains or metro buses. We badly need clean drinking water, good health services and basic quality education at affordable rates. This is all we want from our rulers.
