Extra vigilance : Luggage scanners installed at Rawalpindi railway stations

ISLAMABAD: In a bid to enhance security, two luggage scanners have been installed at the Rawalpindi railway station. The move follows instructions from Railways Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique. The scanners would check for explosive materials being carried in luggage, a statement said. One of the scanners has been installed on the passenger end to screen their luggage before they board their respective trains.

The other has been set up at cargo terminal. After going through the scanner, a security-clearance tag would be attached to each piece of luggage. The Railways ministry plans to install similar scanners at 11 major railway stations in the country including Lahore, Karachi, Peshawar and Quetta in phases.
