Whether as player or captain, Misbah will go to West Indies
Test skipper says PCB will decide on his future; for now he wants to play
DUBAI:
Pakistan Test captain Misbahul Haq hasn't decided about his retirement from the Test team and intends to represent the country on the upcoming tour of the West Indies.
Misbah, while talking about his retirement, told The Express Tribune that he will be playing cricket for now. “Many people are concerned about my retirement, but I’ll most likely be going to the West Indies,” he said before adding that he isn’t sure which role he will perform over there. “But it is not clear if I’ll go as a captain or as a player.”
He added that the team management and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) will decide on his future. “Whatever role PCB gives me, I’ll accept it and give my best,” he said.
Meanwhile, talking about new ODI captain Sarfraz Ahmed, whose name is also being considered for Test captaincy, he said that Pakistan team has to move on. “If the team management thinks Sarfraz is the best option then the team should move forward. Sarfraz has been doing quite well in the T20 format and the PSL too, so if he has been given a role then that is because the board trusts him which is a good thing.”
He further added, “It is now a task for him to prove himself and I wish him best of luck for the future and hope that he can improve Pakistan’s ranking in all formats again.”
